Halvie Junior Mitchell, born on Easter Sunday, April 1, 1922, passed away November 18, 2011.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Winnie Bott Mitchell; one son, Roger Mitchell; and his brother, Ralph Mitchell.
He is survived by his son, Gearl Mitchell and wife, Patty of Bristol, VA; five daughters: Doris Mitchell of Bristol, VA; Dorothy Browder of Blountville, TN; Wanda Fulton and husband Dean of Abingdon; Jewel Tignor and husband Sam of Meadowview; and Rebecca Pruitt and husband Ricky of Christiansburg, VA; three brothers: Douglas Mitchell of Abingdon; Roy Mitchell of Covington, GA; and Dale Mitchell of Bristol, VA; three sisters: Ruby Watson of Bristol, VA; Katie Yeatman of Montross, VA; and Edith Mitchell of Bristol, VA; two granddaughters; several nieces and nephews; and very special friends, Arthur and Carol McCroskey and Pandora Ray.
A graveside service for Mr. Mitchell will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 21, 2011, at Valley View Baptist Church Cemetery on Route 700 with Rev. Jerry Eggers officiating. Pallbearers will be Bruce Worley, Bill DeBord, Carlyle Hobbs, Johnny Duncan, Fred Holbrook, and Steve McCroskey. Family and friends are invited to meet at the cemetery for the service.
The family will receive friends Sunday, November 20, 2011 from 6-8 p.m. at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. The family will also be gathering at Mr. Mitchell's home, 16056 Iroquois Road, Bristol, VA.
