Hartford Shelton, 66, passed away on Friday, February 10, 2012 in Johnston Memorial Hospital.
He was born in North Carolina on December 9, 1945 and grew up around Greeneville, TN. For the past 8 years he has been a resident of Abingdon.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jeff and Leva Shelton; brother, Ernie Shelton; sister, Katherine Shelton; and nephew, Johnny Collette.
Survivors include his wife, Josephine Shelton; son, Scott Shelton of the home; three granddaughters, Holly Poss and husband, Billy of Aurora, IL, Katrina Smith and husband, Mike of Aurora and Tela Peterson and husband, James of Fort Hood, TX; one grandson, Koby Shelton of Bristol, TN; sisters, Vernie Collette and husband, Norman of Afton, TN; Linda Shelton of Greeneville, TN and Revonda Landers of Graystone, TN; sisters-in-law, Virginia Shelton of Chucky, TN, Vileta Winebarger Steffey of Glade Spring, VA, Nellie Harper of St. Paul, VA and Maggie Winebarger of St. Paul, VA; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Shelby and Paula Winebarger of Council, VA and Paul and Evelyn Winebarger of Cape Girardeau, MO; two aunts, Joann Seaton and Wanda Brobeck both of Greeneville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, February 14, 2012 in the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Rev. Richard Tittle, Rev. Keith Williams, and Rev. Darrell Milgrim officiating. Pallbearers will be Eric Shelton, Robert Winebarger, Farrell Winebarger, Clayton Winebarger, Hubert Winebarger, Loyal Freeman, Cleophas Mullins and Ronald Culbertson. Honorary pallbearers are David Shelton, all nephews, Dr. Handy, Diana Crockerman and Home Nursing Co.
The family will receive friends at the Forest Hills Chapel from 6:00 until 9:00 P.M. Monday, February 13, 2012. A song service will begin at 8:00 P.M. Monday.
