Hazel Orfield Harris

Abingdon, VA - Hazel Orfield Harris went to be with the Lord on May 4th, 2017. She was born on September 26, 1921 in Abingdon, Virginia, to Morgan W. Orfield and Fannie Harris Orfield. Hazel lived over forty years in Johnson City, Tennessee, where she was a housewife and business owner with her husband, Elmer Harris, who preceded her in death.
Hazel was from a large, loving family. In addition to her parents, siblings who preceded her in death were sisters Lorena Prillaman, Dorothy Price and Lena Fern. Brothers who also passed were Silas Orfield, Perry Orfield, Jack Orfield and Roger Orfield. Survivors are one sister, Mabel Minnick of San Antonio, Texas, and brothers, Dale Orfield and his wife Janette and Hike Orfield and his wife Betty all of Abingdon, Virginia. Hazel leaves a special sister-in-law, Eve Orfield, wife of Silas and special brother-in-law, Wendell Prillaman, husband of Lorena.
Hazel is survived by one child, Carolyn Pilla Nolen, two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. They are grandson Claude Buford Nolen, III, his wife Lisa and their children, Vika, Masha and Vitya and granddaughter, Stacy Nolen Volles and her husband David and two children, Nolen and Nicholas.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to Brenda Duke and Annemia and Keith Davis of Johnson City, Tennessee and Charlene Wood of Charlottesville. A special thank you to the caregivers at Morningside Assisted Living and Hospice of Charlottesville for their friendship, love and care of Hazel.
Friends may call at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service in Abingdon Virginia on Saturday, May 6th from 2-3 p.m. Immediately following visitation, graveside services will be held at Knollkreg Memorial Park where Mike Poole will officiate.
