Hazel Ruth McNew Scott

Meadowview, Va.  

Hazel Ruth McNew Scott, 98, gained her wings on January 15, 2019. She was born on October 7, 1920, to the late Milt and Carrie Martin McNew. She was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, William Ray Scott; her son Harold Scott; sisters Helen Venable and Bess Surber; and brothers Jim McNew, Mont McNew, and Wade McNew. 

Ruth was an extraordinary woman who loved working in her garden and cooking for her family. She had a giving spirit and was a loving neighbor. 

Ruth is survived by three sons: Clyde E. Scott and wife Silvia of Glade Spring, Va., Curtis R. Scott and wife Sharon of Meadowview, Va., and Ronald Scott and wife Barbara of Glade Spring, Va.  Also surviving are special nieces Joan Davenport and Jeanette Russ, and nephew Mark Venable; eight grandchildren: Clyde Scott, Jr., Hope Scott, Curtis Scott, Jr., Shannon Scott Osborne, Melissa Scott Smithson, Michelle Scott Hall, Ruth Ann Scott Meeks, and Jackie Sue Scott Foley; and twelve great-grandchildren: Eve, Sam, Phillip, Dillon, Hunter, Hope, Amber, Landon, Makayla, Emma, Cody and Cassie. 

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 19, 2019, at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Adam Wolfe and Rev. Danny Mefford officiating. Interment will follow in the Blackwell Chapel Cemetery where Curtis Scott, Jr., Dillon Scott, Hunter Osborne, Landon Smithson, Chad Adkins, Cody Meeks, Sam Collins, and Mark Smithson will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearer Danny Ryan.  The family visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Friday, January 18, 2019 at the funeral home.
