Helen Henderson Harris

Helen Henderson Harris, Born Nov. 21, 1917 in Washington County, VA, died Tuesday, December 11, 2012. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter J. Harris, grandson, Mitchell David Harris, brothers, Bolling, Fount and William "W.P." Henderson.
Helen graduated from Greenfield High School in 1934, moved to Western, NC in 1953 and returned to Abingdon 25 years later after the death of her husband. She was a dedicated member of Abingdon Baptist Church, active volunteer worker at Johnston Memorial Hospital for 20 years and a long time member of Parke P. Dean Rebekah Lodge.
She is survived by her sister, Kathleen Bobinski; sons, Eddie B. Harris and wife Regina and Walter J. Harris, Jr. and wife Carol; five grandchildren, and fourteen great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, December 15, 2012 at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Dr. Steven Pollard officiating. Interment will follow at 2:30 P.M. at Mt. View Memorial Park in Black Mountain, NC.
Visitation with the family will be held from 6-8 P.M. Friday at the funeral home. Those wishing to express sympathy online may do so by visiting www.farrisfuneralservice.com and signing the online guest register.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice in Mrs. Harris' name.
