Helen Ruth Holmes Reedy

Bristol, VA Helen Ruth Holmes Reedy, age 80, passed away on Sunday, September 21, 2014 at Wellmont Hospice House in Bristol, TN. Mrs. Reedy was a native of Russell County, Virginia and had spent most of her adult life in the Washington, D.C. area. While in Washington, D.C. she worked as a budget analyst for the Department of Agriculture and the Department of the Navy. Following retirement, she lived in Florida for ten years, after which she moved to Bristol, VA. Mrs. Reedy was a founding member of the Jesse Historical Foundation. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Bristol Ward. Mrs. Reedy was pre-deceased by her parents, Ralph Taylor Holmes and Sallie Preston Jessee Holmes; and by her husband, Joe Henry Reedy, Sr., whom she married on August 13, 1954. She is survived by her children, Deborah Ann Reedy and friend Jerry Brill of Stafford, VA; Joe Henry Reedy, Jr. and wife Pat Ingle of Bristol, VA; and Rebecca Catherine Lee and husband Ronald Orrin Lee of Aiken, SC; grandson Derick Steven Reedy and fiancée Jennifer Wilson; sister Mary Holmes Akers of Abingdon, VA; brother Kenneth Holmes of Hampton, VA; aunts Betty Holmes of Lebanon, VA, and Eula Lee Holmes Ringley and husband Jack of Bristol, TN; honorary children Kelly and Barbara Donegan and honorary grandchildren Jacob and Sydney Donegan, all of Fredericksburg, VA. A host of nieces and nephews also survive. A funeral service for Mrs. Helen Ruth Holmes Reedy will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday September 25, 2014 in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in National Funeral Home and Memorial Park, King David Memorial Gardens in Falls Church, VA on Saturday, September 27, 2014 at noon.
