Henrietta Read Mears Umberger

Glade Spring, Virginia – Henrietta Read Mears Umberger, age 94, passed on Wednesday, October 17, 2018, in Holston Valley Medical Center.  Henrietta was raised on the Eastern Shore of Virginia and was a longtime resident of Glade Spring.  She was a graduate of James Madison University and worked as a dietitian until her retirement.   Henrietta was an active member of Old Glade Presbyterian Church, as well as, a very active member in her community.  She volunteered with many local organizations including the League of Women Voters, Glade Town Square Center for the Arts, Glade Public Library, the Fields-Penn House, Project Glade, and the William King Regional Arts Center.  Henrietta is preceded in death by her parents, Frank B. and Mable R. Nicholls Mears, husband, John M. Umberger, and son, Frank Leonard Umberger. She is survived by her son, Dwight Umberger of Cumberland, Maryland; granddaughter, Jessica Lee Linaberg of Cumberland, Maryland; and daughter, Kathleen Curtis Wilson of Alameda, California.  Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 20, 2018, in Old Glade Presbyterian Church with Rev. Timothy E. Bird officiating. It was Henrietta's request that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Glade Spring Public Library; 305 N.
