Herman Franklin Widener, age 78 and of the Widener's Valley Community, passed on Monday, August 19, 2013, at Bristol Regional Medical Center. Herman was a member of Little Rock Baptist Church and was a farmer his entire life. He is preceded in death by his parents, Colonel Joel Widener and Josephine Thomas Widener, as well as two brothers and one sister.
He is survived by two brothers, Weaver (Mildred) Widener of Glade Spring, VA and David (Betty) Widener of Martinsville, VA; one sister, Ruby Poston of Orange, VA; special great-great nephew, Adam McVey; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 12:00 noon, Thursday, August 22, 2013, at Rush Creek Cemetery with Pastor Buster Mullins officiating. Pallbearers will be Alex McVey, Steven McVey, Kenneth McQueen, Bradley McQueen, Rodney Baldwin, and King Terry. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Little Rock Baptist Church.
Visitation with the family will be held 9:30-11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Main Street Location of Farris Funeral Service. Those wishing to travel in procession to cemetery are asked to meet at the funeral home by 11:30 a.m. Thursday.
The family would like to extend special thanks to King and Janie Terry for the care they have given Mr. Widener.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Little Rock Baptist Church in Mr. Widener's name.
