Ionia Honaker "Peggy" Wheelock

Dateline: Abingdon, VA- Ionia Honaker “Peggy” Wheelock, age 89, passed away on Monday, August 24, 2015, at Clinch Valley Medical Center. She was born on April 19, 1926, in Honaker, VA and was the first born child of the late Ivan Curtis Honaker, Sr. and Mary Ellen Lockhart Honaker. After high school, she moved to Kingsport, TN where she was employed as a secretary at the Kingsport Press. After her retirement, she and her husband moved to Springfield, VA where she worked for Raleigh’s Department Store until they moved to Foxfire Estates in Abingdon, VA where she lived for the last 26 years. She was a devoted wife and daughter who will always be remembered for her dedication and love for her family. She had a great love for animals especially for her dogs and cats. In addition to her parents, Peggy was also preceded in death by her husband, Howard Wayne Wheelock; sister, Mildred Miller; three brothers: Curtis Honaker, Jr; Glen A. Honaker; and Clyde Honaker. She is survived by three sisters: Betty White of Lebanon, VA; Lynda Hamm and husband Lanny of Honaker, VA; and Peggy Lester of Four Oaks, NC; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral ceremony will be held on Wednesday, August 26, 2015, at 7:00 p.m. at Pleasant View United Methodist Church, 18416 Lee Highway, Abingdon, VA 24210, with the Reverend J.C. Steele and the Reverend Barbara Farmer officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, August 26th from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. at the church. A committal service will be held on Thursday, August 27th at 2:00 p.m. in the mausoleum of Knollkreg Memorial Park where Terry White, Jonathan White, Jim Fern, and Wade Farmer will serve as pallbearers. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Commonwealth Memory Care of Cedar Bluff, and the second floor staff of Clinch Valley Medical Center in Richlands, VA for the love and care they gave our sister.
