Abingdon, VA – Iris O’Quinn McClanahan, age 81, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at Grace Health Care. Iris was born in Buchanan County, VA to the late Rice and Lona Looney O’Quinn. She lived in Grundy most of her life before moving to Abingdon six years ago. Iris had been a member of Grundy Church of Christ since she was five years old where she was also part of the church Butterflies. Mrs. McClanahan gave piano lessons for numerous years, loved to cook, and loved to crochet. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Elmer McClanahan; sister, Madie Prater; and son-in-law, Harry Owens. She is survived by one son, Keith (Deena) McClanahan of Richlands, NC; two daughters, Karen (John) Yates of Franklinton, NC and Kim Owens of Abingdon, VA; four grandchildren, Cid Owens, Luke Owens, Amanda Atkins, and Adam Yates; and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 19, 2014, at the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, 19415 Lee Highway, Abingdon, VA, with Evangelist Dennis Wimmer and Rev. Mike Rife officiating. Interment will follow at 3:30 p.m. in Clinch Valley Memorial Cemetery in Richlands, VA. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Visitation with the family will be held 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Saturday just prior to the service.
