Abingdon, VA – Janet Shortridge Leonard, age 60, passed on Saturday, January 7, 2017, at Johnston Memorial Hospital. Janet was a graduate of Grundy High School and moved to Abingdon in 1997. During her time in Abingdon she was employed at Johnston Memorial Hospital for over 15 years where she served as a registered nurse. Janet was preceded in death by her sister, Margaret Roark.
She is survived by her husband, Gale Leonard; parents, Hearl and Ilene Ratliff Shortridge of Vansant, VA; brothers, Jerry Shortridge and wife Cindy, and Randy Shortridge and wife Peggy, both of Grundy, VA; sisters, Shirley Wilson and husband Eddie, and Debbie Fricker, both of Grundy, VA; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation with the family will be held 5-7 p.m. Monday, January 9, 2017, at the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, 19415 Lee Highway, Abingdon, VA. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Minister Ron Musick officiating. A graveside committal service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday in Mt. View Cemetery, Bristol, VA. Family and friends wishing to attend the committal are asked to convene at the cemetery before 11:00 a.m.
