Janice Russell Owens

Janice Russell Owens, 69, passed away Friday, February 26, 2010 at her home. She was born January 10, 1941 in Scott County, VA and was a daughter of the late Ray and Ada Stone Russell. She was a graduate of Rye Cove High School and the Johnston Memorial School of Nursing. She had worked as a registered nurse at Abingdon Medical Group, Johnston Memorial Hospital, and Bristol Hospital. She was a faithful member of Rosedale Baptist Church and the Relay for Life Team there, and also the Meadowview Civic Club.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Mick Owens and a son, Kevin Owens.

Survivors are her son, Joe and his wife, Libby of Abingdon; her sister, Mary Ann Miller and husband, James of Clinchport, VA; grandchildren, Isaac and Meredith Owens and special friends, Jean Yarber and Martha Bryan.

The family would like to especially thank Dr. Prill, Dr. Tisdale, and the girls at the Abingdon Cancer Center for their kindness and care; also, Karen Foster with Wellmont Hospice for exceptional care during this time.

Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Sunday, February 28, 2010 in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Rev. Danny Thompson officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 5:00 P.M. Sunday. Committal services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, March 1, 2010 at Forest Hills Memory Gardens in Abingdon.

Pallbearers will be Jean Yarber, Martha Bryan, Joyce Millsap, Dorothy Porter and Jettye Minton.
