Jennie Meade Hayter, age 85, passed on Tuesday, October 29, 2013, at Grace Health Care. Jennie was born in Nicklesville, VA to the late Harrison and Cynthia Lawson Meade. She was a 1947 Graduate of Nicklesville High School and a 1952 Graduate of the Johnston Memorial Hospital School of Nursing.
After becoming a registered nurse, Jennie made her home in Abingdon where she met her late husband of 59 years, Ned Y. Hayter. She later retired from Johnston Memorial Hospital after serving as a registered nurse for over 40 years. Mrs. Hayter was a member of Meadowview United Methodist Church, the Meadowview Civic Club, and was a volunteer with the Johnston Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by five brothers and one sister.
She is survived by her son, Michael M. Hayter and wife Susan of Emory, VA; brother, Ned Meade of Nicklesville, VA; sisters, Ruby Dingus and Bernice Meade, both of Nicklesville, VA; two grandchildren, Jessica Hayter of Corpus Christi, TX and Karl Hayter of Richmond, VA.
Visitation with the family will be held 12-2 p.m. Saturday, November 2, 2013 at Meadowview United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday following the visitation with Reverend David Jackson officiating. Interment will follow in Holston Conference Cemetery with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the men of Meadowview United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mary's Lunch Box, c/o Meadowview United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 255, Meadowview, VA 24361, or memorials can be made to the church itself at the same address in Mrs. Hayter's name.
