Jessie Lyall Cantrell, age 96, passed away on December 6, 2011 at the Hospice House in Bristol after an extended illness.
She was the daughter of the late Meredith Lyall and Ardelia Lyall Stephens. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister Ollie Lyall Counts; and a brother Kenneth Joseph Stephens, Sr.
Jessie was a dedicated homemaker for 67 years to her late husband Arnie Cantrell. She was very attentive to those around her with her kind and generous spirit. She was a very loving and supportive mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She spent most of her life in Buchanan County in the Vansant area before moving to Abingdon where she has lived for the last 16years.
Jessie is survived by her devoted daughter, Sharon Bartley and husband Eddie Bartley Jr. of the home; two granddaughters, Catrina Ratliff and husband Cullen of Hansonville, Va, Brittany Bartley and fianc�© Dustin Howell of Radford, VA; two great-grandchildren Dalton and Addison Ratliff of Hansonville, VA; sister-in-law Melba Stephens of Grundy, VA; nephew Joe Stephens and family of Grundy, VA; niece Denise Atkinson and family of Pikeville, KY.
The family will receive friends at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service Thursday, December 8, 2011 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service on Friday December 9, at 2 p.m. with Pastor Paul Ketron officiating.
Interment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens , Claypool Hill , VA.
Active pallbearers will be Cullen Ratliff, Dalton Ratliff, Dustin Howell, Rob Ratliff, Joe Stephens, Dick Cheney and James Ward.
Honorary pallbearers include nephews, friends, members of Holston Valley Baptist Church and Dr. Andrew Brockmyre.
The family would like to express thanks to Hospice and Palliative Care of Southwest Virginia and nurses, Mary, Pam and Christy.
