Jetna "Granny" Roark Hawkins, 94, of Abingdon went to be with Jesus on Tuesday, June Wednesday, June 22, 2011.
Born in Ashe, County, NC, and lifetime resident of Abingdon she was the daughter of the late Tilson and Ella Roark. She was a faithful member of Solid Rock Baptist Church. She retired from Golan Manufacturing in 1987. She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Hawkins, Jr.; three brothers, Moton, Colonel and Delmar Roark; a sister, Luressie Jones; and three children.
She is survived by her three sons, Marvin Hawkins and his wife Margaret of Abingdon, VA, Bobby Hawkins and his wife Mary of SC, and Billy Hawkins and his wife Rhonda of Abingdon, VA; two daughters, Hazel Sweet Milton of Lebanon, VA, and Judy Roberts and her husband Mike of Abingdon, VA; nineteen grandchildren; and twenty nine great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 25, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. at Solid Rock Baptist Church, 20060 Saturn Drive, Abingdon, VA 24211 with Rev. Larry Bentley, Rev. Junior Gobble and Rev. Chuck Stout, officiating. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Randy Atwell, James Milton, Terry Milton, Craig Hawkins, Chad Hawkins, and Derek Hawkins. Honorary pallbearers will be men of Solid Rock Baptist Church. The family will receive friends on Friday, June 24, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Farris Funeral Service, 427 East Main Street, Abingdon, VA or anytime at the home of Jetna Hawkins.
