Jimmy L. Tignor

May 8, 1945 — March 22, 2019

Jimmy L. Tignor, of Abingdon, Va., went to his heavenly home with his family by his side on Friday, March 22, 2019, at 73 years of age.  He lived the majority of his life in Washington County, Va.  Jimmy retired from Sterling Casket Hardware, Abingdon, Va. at 62.  He loved being outside, working with flowers, landscaping and especially keeping his grandson, Jacob.  Jimmy was a member of Abingdon Church of the Nazarene where he served as a greeter, usher and church trustee.  He wanted to be remembered as a man with simple needs who loved God, his wife, children, family, friends and church family.  Jimmy had a servant’s heart and worked behind the scenes with various ministries in the church and for those in need.  He had a unique sense of humor that was loved by all.  Our loss is heaven’s gain.  Jimmy will be loved and missed by all.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George W. Tignor and Virginia Musser Tignor; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Tignor and Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Musser.

Jimmy is survived by his wife of 38 years, Teresa Counts Tignor; two sons, Jason A. Tignor and wife, Holli, of Bristol, Va. and James Allen Tignor and fiancée, Becky, of Abingdon; daughter, Jennifer Tignor Heath of Meadowveiw, Va.; brother, Rick Tignor of Glade Spring, Va.; two sisters, Jo Ann Miller and husband, Robert, of Abingdon and Sandra Miller and husband, James, of Abingdon; two grandchildren, Jacob R. Heath and Candace Tignor both of Meadowview; and a great-grandson, Jaxson Tignor.  Also surviving is his uncle, Joe Musser and two aunts, Delaphine Sternamen and Beulah Musser; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family would like to thank the JMH Cancer Center, Dr. Mark Davis, Dr. Bernie Tisdale, Teresa White, RN, Donna Abel, RN, the JMH Hospital 3100 unit staff; as well as, Ballad Hospice and Abingdon Health and Rehab for their wonderful care of Jimmy while he was there for the past three weeks and Paula C. Fore, Assistant Director of Nursing and Team.  Additional thanks to all friends and family that faithfully visited him during his illness.

A funeral ceremony will be held on Tuesday, March 26, 2019, at 7:00 p.m. at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Pastor Wayne Wilson, Pastor Mark Copley, and Pastor Lee Schnelle officiating.  A committal service will be held on Wednesday, March 27th at 11:00 a.m. at the mausoleum of Knollkreg Memorial Park where Matt Hale, Brendan McSheehy, Jr., Sammy Price, Josh Tignor, David Whichard, and Willie Widener will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Henley, Tim McClure, Joe Musser, Chuck Puckett, and Gary Smythe.  Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 26th from 5:00 p.m. -7:00 p.m. prior to the service.
