Joan Annette Smart Slatcher, age 74, passed away Saturday, October 20, 2012, with her family by her side. Mrs. Slatcher was of the Christian Faith and enjoyed rescuing numerous felines. Joan was a loving mother and grandmother and was preceded in death by her parents, Miles Jackson Smart and Mattie Louise Parson Smart, and sister, Dorothy Louise Smith.
Mrs. Slatcher is survived by one son, James Warren Slatcher of Woodbridge, VA; two daughters, Rebecca Louise Slatcher and husband James Thrall of Abingdon, VA and Sarah Lynn Slatcher Conaway and husband Brian of Centerville, VA; five grandchildren, James Thrall, Jr., Rebecca Leann Spurrier, Dillon Slatcher, Andrew Conaway and Liam Conaway.
A memorial service for Mrs. Slatcher will be held at a later date.
The family would like to thank Russell County Hospice, Amber Cantrell, Tina Terry and the Johnston Memorial Hospital Cancer Center.
