Joe Tom Rash, age 60, went to spend Christmas with Jesus on Thursday, December 22, 2011. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Joe graduated from Abingdon High School in 1969 and from East Tennessee State University in 1973. He worked for many years at Advance Auto Parts, and he was a regular attendee of Abingdon Baptist Church .
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Winford Elijah Rash and Bessie Boggs Rash, and by a brother, Robert Boggs of Baltimore , MD.
Survivors include his wife, Lelia Johnson Rash; his son, Michael Josef Rash of Kingsport , TN ; daughter Kayla Fulwider and husband Jay of Abingdon; his granddaughter Brooke Fulwider, who enriched his life and was his pride and joy; his sister Peggy Fields of Abingdon; his brother James W. Rash and wife Sandy of Abingdon; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express a very special "thank you" to all the physicians and staff at Johnston Memorial Hospital who cared for Joe during his brief battle with cancer.
The funeral service for Joe Rash will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 27, 2011, at the Abingdon Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Stephen Pollard officiating. Entombment will follow in Serenity Garden Mausoleum at Forest Hills Memory Gardens . The family will receive friends on Monday, December 26, 2011, from 6:00 p.m. 8:00 p.m. at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Abingdon Baptist Church, 361 West Main Street, Abingdon, VA 24210, or to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 246, Abingdon, VA 24212.
