John Howard Smith, 79, passed away Thursday, September 9, 2010 at Brookhaven Manor in Kingsport, TN.
He was born in Washington County, VA to the late James A. and Ona Stevens Smith. John served in the United States Army during the Korean War. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Gary Lynn Smith; his brothers, Lewis Smith, Harold Smith, Henry Smith, and Roy Smith; two sisters, Fannie Neal and Eva Campbell.
Survivors include one son, Rick Smith and wife Vickie, Saltville, VA; one daughter Debra Gifford and husband Cliff, Bristol, TN; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at Greenwood Cemetery on Sunday, September 12, 2010 at 4:00 pm with Pastor Junior Gobble officiating. The funeral procession will be leaving from Farris Funeral Service at 3:15pm on Sunday. Military honors will be conducted by the Highlands Honor Guard.
Pallbearers will be David Sweet, Perry Eller, Waylon Sykes, Phil Lewis, Steve Lewis, and David Neal. Honorary pallbearers will be William Paul Vannoy, Jeremy Hetzler, Larry Campbell, and Tom Smith.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 6:00 â?? 8:00 pm at Farris Funeral Service.
