Joseph D. "Joe" Barrett, 80, passed away at his home on Thursday, March 24, 2011.

He was born August 16, 1930 and was a son of the late Joseph and Kathleen Barrett. Joe was well known as the owner and operator of Washington County Sheet Metal for over 50 years. He was also a veteran of the Korean war. Joe attended Victory Baptist Church in Bristol, VA.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Roy Barrett and a sister, Ida Mullins.

Survivors are his wife, Ann; son, Mark Barrett and wife, Connie of Abingdon; daughter, Cindy Perrine and husband, Rick of Ripley, WV; grandchildren, Sarah Barrett of Abingdon, Matt Perrine and wife, Amy of Ripley, WV; great grandchildren, Annie Lily and Cole Perrine of Ripley, WV; brothers, Frank Barrett and wife, Fay, and Garland Barrett and wife, Pat; Sisters, Opal Sippel and husband, Joe, Christine Humphey and husband, Kermit and Regina Cumbow and husband, Jim; sister-in-law, Betty Barrett; several nieces and nephews and a special friend, Greg Robinson.

The family would also like to extend thanks to Tracy Martin and the staff of Home Nursing Service of Southwest Virginia, especially Millicent Davis, Jessie Duncan and Greg Sawyers; and all of Joe's friends and loyal customers throughout his years of service.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, March 26, 2011 in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Dr. Austin Cook and Rev. Harry Booher officiating. Interment will follow in Knollkreg Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Joe Tolliver, Joe Andis, Calvin Odum, Sam Kestner, Earl Alexander, Justin Helton, J.D. Morefield and Charlie Warren.

Honorary pallbearers will be C.B. Hale, Lewis Minton, A.J. Miller, Noah Wright, Dr. Roger Glover, Johnny Weddle, Warren McCray, Mack Bailey, Bruce Stone, Dr. Emory Robinette, Dr. Scott Shaffer, Jeff Stiltner and Gary Dutton.

The family will receive friends at Farris Funeral Service from 6:00 until 9:00 P.M. Friday, March 25, 2011.

The family wishes to express special thanks to Dr. Emory Robinette and his nurse, Cheryl Bowels.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
