Julia Mae South Sutherland

Meadowview, VA Julia Mae South Sutherland, age 94, passed away on Thursday, March 12, 2015 at Johnston Memorial Hospital. She was the youngest of six children, born to the late Marion South and Sarah Jane Morrison South on May 2, 1920 in Washington County, VA. She was a devoted housewife who enjoyed vegetable gardening and being outdoors. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Billie Baxter Sutherland; five siblings; and son-in-law, Charles Ray Branscome. She is survived by two daughters, Phyllis Branscome of Glade Spring, VA and Barbara Sutherland of Greensboro, NC; son, Billy Sutherland and wife Phyllis of Meadowview, VA; three grandchildren: Rhonda Alexander and husband Larry of Bristol, VA; Karen Martin and husband Tim of Chilhowie, VA; and Randy Sutherland of Bristol, TN; step-granddaughter, Debbie Sturgill and husband Billy of Chilhowie, VA; and six great grandchildren, Kit, Jaime, Jordan, Eric, Chenoa, and Cheyenna. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Saturday March 14, 2015 at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. A funeral ceremony will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday March 15, 2015 at the funeral home with Rev. Dr. David Critcher officiating. A committal service will be held at Sunset Memorial Park following the funeral service where Randy Sutherland, Larry Alexander, Kit Alexander, Cecil McVey, Ira Price, and Eddie McCall will serve as pall bearers.
