Lara Gladys Witt

Lara Gladys Bowman Witt, age 94, of Abingdon, Va. and formerly of Bastian, Va., went to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 1, 2019, at Commonwealth Senior Living. She was born December 6, 1924, to the late Stonewall Jackson Bowman and Minnie Frances Hayes Bowman. She attended Highlands Fellowship Church.
In addition to her parents, Lara was also preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, Fred Kenneth Witt; step-son, Kenny Witt; son-in-law, George Humphreys, Jr.; 14 siblings; and her former spouse, Walter Ray Burnopp, Jr.
She is survived by her daughter, Phyllis Burnopp Humphreys, of the home; three grandsons: Mark Humphreys of Mechanicsville, Va.; Greg Humphreys and wife, Amanda, of Abingdon, Va.; and Michael Witt and wife, Pam, of Christiansburg, Va.; four great grandchildren, Hailey, Jackson, Josianna, and Joseph Humphreys; two step-great grandchildren, Chase Witt and Casey Witt; and a special niece, Carolyn Callaway.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, June 10, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. at Forest Hills Memory Gardens with Pastor Craig Barber officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Highlands Fellowship Food Pantry, 22417 Watauga Rd., Abingdon, VA 24211.
