Leonard B. Wilson, Jr., 90, was born December 27, 1929 and died April 6, 2020.
Mr. Wilson retired from the DuPont Company in January 1992 after 32 years of service. He held supervisory positions in occupational safety and health, fire protection and fire prevention at DuPont’s Chestnut Run facility, the Experimental Station, and the Louviers site. He started with DuPont with the Safety and Fire Protection Division. From 1992 until 1996, he was the Assistant Director of Safety at A.I. duPont Institute (children’s hospital) in Wilmington, Delaware.
Born in Orange, New Jersey, Mr. Wilson earned a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering from the Newark College of Engineering, now known as the New Jersey Institute of Technology. After graduation, he was called to active duty in the U.S. Navy Construction Battalion (Sea Bees) and spent two years on active duty at the Midway Island Naval Air Station. From 1954 to 1960 he evaluated fire protection and fire prevention systems in cities in the eight western states for the National Board of Fire Underwriters and was based in San Francisco.
He is pre-deceased by his wife of 58 years, Shirley Newell Wilson, and is survived by two sons, Kriss Wilson (Karen) of Richmond, Virginia and Scott (Judy) of Abingdon, Virginia. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Christie Wilson (Houston, Texas), Austin Wilson (Richmond, Virginia), Hunter Wilson (New York), Jack Wilson (Richmond, Virginia) and Rutger Wilson (Melrose, Montana).
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to a favorite charity.
