Lila Ruth Wilburn, age 91, of Bristol, Va., passed away on Thursday, November 10, 2016, at Johnston Memorial Hospital. She was a daughter of the late, Sydney Carson Gibson and Lila Gertrude Gray Gibson, born on November 5, 1925, in Illinois. The Wilburn family settled in Southwest, Va. in 1968 having resided in several areas across the country as they traveled with her husband Bobbie’s career. She attended State Street United Methodist Church and enjoyed spending her winters in Florida.
In addition to her parents, Lila was also preceded in death by her husband, Bobbie Wilburn.
She is survived by two sons, Robert Wilburn, of Johnson City, Tenn. and David Wilburn and wife Jo-Rita, of Lebanon, Va.; two daughters, Aline Ricks and husband Kevin, of Duluth, Ga. and Terri Wilburn and husband Matt Bly, of Charlotte, N.C.; brother, Charles Gibson, of Calif.; sister, Juanita Lewis, of Marion, Ill.; three grandchildren, Lacey Ricks, Dillon Wilburn, and Bridget Adams; great grandson, Colton Wilburn; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Lila will forever be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 12, 2016, at the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, 19415 Lee Highway, Abingdon, Va. 24210, with Minister Mark Mitchell officiating. A committal service will follow in Forest Hills Memory Gardens where Tyler Huff, Mark Mitchell, Kevin Ricks, David Wilburn, Dillon Wilburn, and Robert Wilburn will serve as pallbearers. Tony McFadden will serve as an honorary pallbearer. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 12th at the Forest Hills Chapel prior to the funeral ceremony.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Russell County Medical Center Hospice, 116 N. Flannagan Ave. Suite C, Lebanon, Va. 24266.
