Lillie Mae Fleenor Shortt, age 90, passed on Saturday, February 9, 2013, at Abingdon Health & Rehab Center. Mrs. Shortt was a lifelong resident of Abingdon and was a lifelong and the oldest member of Wyndale United Methodist Church. Lillie is remembered for her love of cooking, particularly baking pound cakes, as well her love of singing and her church.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles Thomas Fleenor, Sr. and Ethel Emily McCroskey; husband of 57 years, George D. Shortt; brothers, Earl, Arthur, Junie, Virgil and Robert Fleenor; sister, Margaret Whitt; and son-in-law, Johnny Smith.
She is survived by three daughters, Janice Smith of Morristown, TN, Phyllis (Roger) Pickle, and Connie (Boyd) Pender both of Abingdon, VA; six grandchildren, Eric C. (Jennifer) Smith, Brittany (Todd) Willock, Jenny B. (Jason) Ingram, Bradley Pickle, Adam (Haley) Pender, and Thomas Pender; six great-grandchildren, Dylan and Abby Smith, Ryley and Hudson Pender and Liam and Graham Willock; special great-niece, Susan Lewis; and special friend, Audrey Lloyd.
Funeral services will be held at 7:00 P.M. Monday, February 11, 2013, at the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Pastor Luther Roberts officiating. Visitation with the family will be held 5:00-7:00 P.M. Monday just prior to the service.
A committal service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at Forest Hills Memory Gardens with Eric Smith, Dylan Smith, Jason Ingram, Bradley Pickle, Adam Pender, and Thomas Pender serving as pallbearers. Those wishing to attend the committal are asked to convene at the cemetery before 11:00 A.M.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Mrs. Shortt's caregivers, Alice Fleenor, Ann Murray, Michelle Anita Gammon, Jean Salyer, and Jackie McNamara. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wyndale United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, 19173 Astor Road, Abingdon, VA 24210.
