Lloyd Herman Duty, age 74, passed away on Friday, March 29, 2013 at Johnston Memorial Hospital. He was born on August 12, 1938 in Grundy, Virginia to the late Jonah and Kelsa Lou (Childress) Duty. He moved to Michigan at a young age. He met his wife, Mary Lou, in 1956 and they were married in 1959. God blessed them with two wonderful children; Mark and Tammi. Lloyd worked for many years as a residential and commercial builder. He loved building of all kinds but especially building churches. He was a veteran of the United States Army, and a member and deacon of Victory Baptist Church in Bristol, Virginia. He loved hunting, fishing, bluegrass/gospel music and most of all spending time with his family and friends.

Lloyd is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary Lou (Deel) Duty; 2 children, Mark Shannon (Angela) Duty of Abingdon, VA and Tamela Rene (Barry) Tuttle of Shelby Twp, Michigan; 2 extra-special grandchildren, Rachel Lauren Bennett and Brandon Noah Tuttle; 4 siblings, James (Judy) Duty, Sadie Stidham, Wadie (Morris) Shelley, and Ada (Jerry) Yates; 2 sisters-in-law, Donica and Jeanette; uncle, Roy (Virginia) Childress; and many nieces, nephews, and special friends. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by 11 siblings: Ellis, Ira, Bunyan, Harmon, Pearl, Truman, Kenneth, Kiester, Virginia, Lou, and Arthur; and brother-in-law, Bill.

Visitation with the family will be from 2:00-8:00 p.m., Sunday, March 31, 2013 at the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, 19415 Lee Highway, Abingdon, VA 24210. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 1, 2013 at Victory Baptist Church, 11101 Island Road, Bristol, VA 24202, with Dr. Austin Cook officiating. Family and friends will travel in procession to Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood, VA where Military Honors will be presented by Lebanon V.F.W. Post 9864.
