Mr. Luther Lee Miller, age 87, passed away Thursday, February 27, 2014. He was born and raised in Konnarock, VA, son of the late Caney and Laura Hoppers Miller. Mr. Miller was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in the infantry during World War II in Germany and France. He retired from the Department of Transportation in the District of Columbia and returned to this area thirty years ago. He attended Souls Harbor Church in Damascus, VA.
Mr. Miller enjoyed gardening and working outdoors, and he was well known for his creative ability to fix anything. Everyone who knew him loved him, and he will be greatly missed.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Kathy Miller Rhudy, and four brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his loving wife, Wilma M. Miller; his grandson Sam Rhudy II and wife Crystal of Abingdon; sister Gladys Donoghue of Silver Spring, MD, and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his faithful companion Dusty.
The graveside service for Mr. Luther Lee Miller will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, March 3, 2014, at Forest Hills Memory Gardens with Pastor David Griffin officiating. Military rites will be performed by Highlands Veterans Honor Guard and the Virginia National Guard. Family and friends are invited to meet at the cemetery for the service by 12:50 p.m. on Monday.
