Mabel Irene Casteel, age 95, died on Thursday, March 22, 2012 in St. Augustine, FL. She was born to Ruth and Greek Patterson on February 1, 1917 in Abingdon, VA. On October 25, 1937 she married John Rhea Casteel, then moved to Marion, VA where she was a cosmetologist for 60 years.
She had resided in St. Augustine, FL for the past 8 years.
Mabel was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter (Rosalind Barnes) and 3 siblings.
Survivors include her son: Thomas Rhea Casteel (Joy) of Ponte Verda, FL; a son-in-law: N. A. Barnes (Judy) of Mt. Airy, NC; 6 devoted grandchildren: Becky Lamp'l (Joe) and Amy Sparks (Sean) all of Mt. Airy, NC; Van Casteel Daniel (Tyson) and John Rhea Casteel (Michelle) all of Roanoke, VA; Michael Barnes (Chelsea) of Gastonia, NC and Briggs Cooper Casteel (Jennifer) of Richmond, VA. She is also survived by a sister: Inez Wise and a sister-in-law: Mildred Casteel Morgan both of Abingdon, VA; 8 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends in the Mausoleum Chapel at Knollkreg Memorial Park, in Abingdon, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 31, 2012. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. in the Mausoleum Chapel with Rev. Craig Wylie officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial contributions to: Community Hospice Bailey Center, 400 Health Park Blvd., St. Augustine, FL 32080, or to your local hospice of choice.
