Mabel Louise Haga Ratcliffe, age 85 passed away and entered her Heavenly home on Monday, May 2, 2011, at Valley Health Care in Chilhowie, Virginia, surrounded by her family.

She was born in Helen, West Virginia, to the late Preston and Zella Maude Haga and lived most of her life in Chilhowie and Glade Spring, Virginia.

She is preceded in death by her husband, James C. Ratcliffe, three daughters, Connie Sue and Shirley Jean Ratcliffe, and Patsy Thompson. One grandson, Brandon Jackson who could brighten her day with his gentle touch and bright smile, one great grandson, Bradley Matthew Thompson, one son-in-law, Mark Jackson who she loved as a son; two brothers, Wade Haga and Ralph "Junior" Haga.

Survivors include one daughter, Debbie Jackson of Glade Spring, Virginia; three sons, Jimmy Ratcliffe and wife Nancy, of Greenville, Virginia; Jackie Ratcliffe and wife Martha of Emory, Virginia; Ronnie Ratcliffe of Abingdon, Virginia; and his special friend, Sharon Hayden, two sisters, Wanda Lambert of Blountville, Tennessee; with whom she shared such a special relationship through the years, Mildred Huffaker of Knoxville, Tennessee; two brothers, Billy Haga and wife Betty of Chilhowie, Virginia; who have watched over and shown great love to our Mother; James Haga and wife Maye of Port Orange, Florida; and a son-in-law, Robert Thompson. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren, who she loved and cherished dearly. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

A special thanks to the all the nurses and aides of first floor at Valley Health Care Center who took care of our Mother during her stay, especially her aide Mary Kirk, who she and her family loved. A special thanks to John Hayden who visited and watched over our Mother with such love and concern.

Graveside services will be held at Old Glade Presbyterian Cemetery, on Friday, May 6, 2011, at 1:00 P.M. with the Reverend Scott Spence officiating. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive family and friends on Thursday, May 5, from 6 until 8, at Farris Funeral Services, at 427 East Main Street, Abingdon, VA. Those wishing to attend the Graveside Service should meet at Old Glade Presbyterian Cemetery. Family and friends can call at the home of Debbie Jackson at 503 Holston Heights, Glade Spring.

Flowers will be appreciated or contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee, 38105.
