Marie Neely Ison

Marie Neely Ison, age 94, went to be with her Savior on Sunday, October 23, 2016, at her home following a protracted illness. Marie was born one of seven children of the late Lee Neely and Ida Taylor Neely in East Stone Gap, Va.

She was a resident of Abingdon for many years and a faithful member of Damascus Road Baptist Church having attended regularly and assisting in Sunday School as long as her health permitted. Following the failure of her husband’s eyesight Marie was known to read the Bible to him daily. Marie worked for the Wise County Aware Program where she supervised the cannery. She will be remembered as a hard worker and an avid gardener.

In addition to her parents, Marie was also preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Winston Ison.

Left behind to carry on her memory are her two daughters, Linda Holt and husband Eric of Riceville, Tenn. and Sandra Elgin of Grundy, Va.; 5 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 26, 2016, at Damascus Road Baptist Church, 18844 Jeb Stuart Highway, Abingdon, Va. 24211, with the Rev. John E. Massey, Jr. officiating. A committal service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 27th at Forest Hills Memory Gardens where Walt Billips, Virgil Bryant, Stephen Elgin, Chad Holt, Eric Holt, and Jesse Holt will serve as pallbearers. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the church prior to the funeral ceremony.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Haven of Rest Rescue Mission, 624 Anderson Street, Bristol, Tenn. 37620, or flowers will be accepted.
