Martha W. Mitchell

Martha W. Mitchell, age 86, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 21, 2017 in Johnston Memorial Hospital.
She was born March 17, 1931 to the late Wyndom Martin Mitchell and the late Margie Frances Cumbo Mitchell. Martha was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She had spent most of her life in the Abingdon area where she was a graduate of Virginia Highlands Community College. Martha enjoyed reading, Bible study, politics, and she loved all aspects of nature.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by twelve brothers and sisters.
Martha is survived by one daughter, Linda Yvonne Curtis and husband William Bradley Curtis of New Britain, Pa.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Many other famly members also are surviving.
The funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday, May 27, 2017 in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Rev. Barbara Farmer officiating. The family will receive friends from noon until time of service. Burial will follow in the Mitchell Cemetery on North Fork River Road. Pallbearers will be family and friends.
