Mary Ann Shumate Jessee

Mary Ann Shumate Jessee passed away on Monday, September 16, 2013 at Abingdon Health & Rehab Center. She was born on September 22, 1922 in Princeton, West Virginia to P. D. Shumate and Ida Spangler. She was preceded in death by her infant son, William David Walker; her brother, E. E. Shumate;and her sister, Mildred Shumate Lesher.

She is survived by her son, Bob Walker and wife Mary Clayton Andersen Walker of Abingdon, VA; grandson, Clay Walker of Asheville, NC; and granddaughter, Jessica Ann Walker and husband Colin Whitlow of Brooklyn, NY.

Mary Ann retired from Bristol Memorial Hospital as an administrative assistant. She was a member of State Street United Methodist Church and a former member of the First Baptist Church of Bristol. Mary Ann was a loving and beloved mother and grandmother and was blessed with very special nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors. She enjoyed traveling and visited all 50 states and many foreign countries. She was an excellent cook always generously sharing a favorite recipe or dish. She was an avid Atlanta Braves fan.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, September 23, 2013 at State Street United Methodist Church in Bristol, VA with Rev. Jeff Wright officiating. Visitation with the family will be held 1-2 p.m. prior to the service.
