Mary Cook Thomas
June 23, 1935 — February 4, 2022
Mary Cook Thomas, 86, of Abingdon, VA, died Friday, February 4, 2022, at her home surrounded by her family. She was the daughter of Carl and Ruth Widener Cook of Widener’s Valley, VA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Thomas, brothers Clayton, Ernest, Herbert, Charles, and Vernon Cook and sister Martha Dolinger.
She is survived by Vota and Betty Thomas of Abingdon, Libby (Joe) Owens, Abingdon, VA; Buddy (Mary) Thomas, Castlewood, VA; Danny (Beverly) Thomas, Damascus, VA; and Mary Ruth (Steven) Hagaman, Zionville, NC. She is also survived by nine grandchildren Kelsey (Kyle) Hardwick, Isaac (Katie) Owens, Meredith Owens, Carrie Thomas, Max Hagaman, Noah Thomas, Clay Hagaman, Anna Thomas and Bryson Hagaman and one great grandson, Cash Owens. She is also survived by three siblings, Robert Cook, Eleanor Dolinger, and Rebecca Heath as well as several nieces and nephews.
Mary was a long-time member of Pleasant View Baptist Church in Widener’s Valley, VA. She loved singing, serving the Lord, and going to church. She was a member of the church quartet that sang on the radio each week. She loved entertaining her friends and family and cooking and serving meals. Mary loved her family with everything she had, but she loved her Lord more.
The graveside service will be conducted Monday, February 7, 2022, at Widener’s Valley Community Cemetery at 11:00 A.M., with Rev. Vann Seal officiating. We respectfully ask that everyone who attends wear a mask. Pallbearers will be Mary’s grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to either the Widener’s Valley Community Cemetery c/o Danny Thomas 21114 Diamond Drive Damascus 24236 or Pearl’s Memory Babies P.O. Box 74 Shepherdsville, KY 40165 in memory of Mary Thomas.
