Mary Elizabeth Nemeth

d. September 18, 2013

Mary Elizabeth Nemeth, age 65, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at the VITAS Inpatient Hospice Unit in Merritt Island, FL.

Mary was born in Seattle, WA on March 20, 1948 and grew up in Chehalis, WA. Mary enjoyed working as a video department manager at Food City in Elizabethton following Campus Video in Johnson City, TN. Following her diagnosis with lung cancer in 2004, she moved to Abingdon, VA and helped raise her grandbabies. She was a member of Highlands Fellowship Church and was baptized at South Holston Lake in Abingdon, VA.

Mary is survived by three daughters: Jenny Brown of Abingdon, VA; Becky (Bradley) Stiltner of Meadowview, VA; and Jessica Smith (Jamison) of Wytheville, VA; three sisters: Janet (Dave) Brown of Longview, WA; Blair (Owen) Wilson of Longview, WA; and Stephanie Miniclier of Indian Harbour Beach, FL; four grandchildren, Brady and Sarah Stiltner, Xander Brown, and Tripp Watkins; and several nieces and nephews.

Mary was an avid parrot-head and had lots of friends. She was loved by many due in part to her outlandish sense of humor, love of adventure and exceptional generosity. She enjoyed life, her rum and coke and a good smoke. Even in the midst of sickness, she strived for "quality of life" as opposed to "quantity." She fought with an uncommon strength and remained positive as she battled lung/brain cancer, with special loving care and support of her sister and best friend, Stephanie. Mary was proud to be called a "Survivor." She delighted in spending time with family and friends and loved going to the beach or a favorite restaurant.

Family and friends will celebrate her life at the Washington County Park in Abingdon, VA (Shelter #4) on Saturday, October 5, 2013 starting at 1:00 P. M. In lieu of flowers, bring a covered dish, beverage and your favorite "Mary story" to share, as we know there are many! She will be forever in our hearts!

Assistance provided by Beach Funeral Home in Indian Harbour Beach, FL.
