Melissa Ann Prater

Melissa Ann Prater, age 45, of Bristol, Va., passed away on Thursday, August 2, 2018, at Bristol Regional Medical Center.  She was born May 9, 1973, in Smyth County, Va. to Larry Dallas Prater and Irene Ruth Jenkins Prater.  Melissa was a 1992 graduate of Holston High School. 

She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Elizabeth Prater.

In addition to her parents, Melissa is survived by her son, Travis Lee Mitchell of Bristol, Va.; daughter, Kimberly Marie Prater of Butler, Tenn.; three siblings:  Cathy Prater and boyfriend, Robert Otey, of Bristol, Va.; Ruth Thomas and husband, James, of Meadowview, Va.; Jessica Prater and boyfriend, Justin Truman, of Bristol, Tenn.; two grandsons; one granddaughter; paternal grandmother, Frances Prater of Glade Spring, Va.; and several nieces and nephews. 

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 with Pastor Todd Crusenberry officiating. Interment will follow in the Old Glade Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Justin Truman, Charles Prater, Danny Prater, Robert Cordell, Jr., Stanley Bryant, and Junior Graham. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the funeral home to defer the cost of final expenses.
