Nathan "Bill" Whaley, 84, of 621 Painter Creek Rd, Bristol, TN passed away on June 11, 2011 at his home of two years, Broadmore Assisted Living.

A native of Cucumber W. VA, he was the son of the late Robert and Carrie Whaley. Bill was a member of Suburban Christian Church; he served with great love and dedication for 17 years as Treasurer for Painter Creek Church of Christ. Bill worked for Consol Coal Company for over 30 years and at other mines for 11 years. He also worked on boats at LW Boat Repair in Painter Creek.

He is survived by his loving and faithful wife of 45 years, Laura Whaley; two daughters, Pamela G. Blackburn and her husband Robert; and Shelia A. Hayes and her husband Leroy; two grandchildren, Michelle Barrett and her husband John of Knoxville, TN, and Seth Hayes and his fianc�©e Heather Weatherly of Bristol, TN; three great grandchildren, Hobie and Saylor Dowell, and Faith Hayes; and one step great grandchild, India Barrett.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, 19415 Lee Highway, Abingdon, Virginia with Rich Pannell officiating. Pallbearers will be Tony Childress, Sonny Scott, Bobby Church, Larry Azure, Herb Wilkie, Dee Dee Brown, and Eddie Williams. Burial will follow the service at Forest Hills Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, 427 East Main Street, Abingdon, Virginia.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the faithful and loving friends who visited Bill and Laura and assisted the family during his illness, and also a special thanks to the Broadmore Staff and friends, and Amedisys Hospice for their care.
