Nita Lawson Bays

Nita Lawson Bays, age 97, passed away on Monday, May 2, 2016, at Grace Healthcare in Abingdon, Va. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carlton Bays; grandson, Jimmy Baird; parents, Robert and Dora Lawson; three brothers; and two sisters.
Nita is survived by two daughters, Jeanette Smith and Marlene Upchurch and husband Billy of Bristol, Va.; granddaughter, Stacey Smith of Alabaster, Ala.; two grandsons, Todd Upchurch and wife Audra of Lovettsville, Va. and Lee Smith and wife Kathy of Opelika, Ala.; and two great-grandchildren, Nora Upchurch and D.J. Smith.
She was a member of Walnut Grove Presbyterian Church in Bristol, Va.
Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m.-2:15 p.m. Saturday, May 7, 2016, at the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, 19415 Lee Highway, Abingdon, Va. 24210. A funeral ceremony will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, May 7th at the Forest Hills Chapel with the Rev. John Markel and the Rev. Curtis Murray officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memory Gardens where pallbearers will be selected from Nitas church family.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to caregiver, Linda Robinson, and the staff of Grace Healthcare.
