Noah Jackson Buchanan, 88, passed away Friday, June 22, 2012. Mr. Buchanan was a member of Grundy Baptist Church and a member of Sandy Valley Lodge No. 17 F & A.M. and a Shriner. He also served in the U.S. Air Force during WWII where he participated in operations in Rome, Arno, Normandy, France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. Mr. Buchanan earned the Air Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge, and other awards for his service. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lester Virgil and Gladys Leonard Buchanan, sister, Vienne Carr, and former wife, Joan Buchanan.

He is survived by two sons, Jack Buchanan, II of New Tazewell, TN and Jim (Christy) Buchanan of Alcoa, TN; one daughter, Alice Jo Peery; three sisters, Eula Cole of FL, Betty Justice of Bristol, TN and Barbara Plymal of Dandridge, TN; six grandchildren, Caroline Buchanan, Fletcher Buchanan, Brook Hengst, Season Newberry, Samuel Peery and Drew Peery.

A memorial service will be held at 6:00 P.M. Saturday, June 30, 2012 at New Hope Christian Church, 4810 Slate Creek Road, Grundy, VA, with Minister William L. Neeley officiating. Military Rites will follow the service.

Honorary pallbearers will be Randall Meyers, Dave Fletcher, Red Robertson, Luke Flemming, Randall McNew, Clark Pregrem, Jason Plymal, Bud Ratliff, Scotty McCoy, Craig Plymal, Daina Reynolds, Smitty Smith, Justin Bailey, Eddie Skeens, Donald Rife, Robert Brooks, Roger Powers, Bob Neeley, Sam Neeley, Bill Kilgore, Mel Keen, Mike Johnson, Glenn Robinette, Herb Fields, Henry Farmer Eric Mayhorn and Tom Scott.

Visitation with the family will be held from 4-6 P.M. Saturday just prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Legion Post 164, Grundy, VA or to VFW Post 7360, P.O. Box 44, Maxie, VA 24628..
