Opal Geneva Terry West passed away peacefully in her home on Saturday, September 3rd, 2011.
She was born in Washington County, Virginia, April 6, 1948 to the late Ben S. and Hettie Johnson Terry.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her sister, Roberta Warner, and her husband, Cleve Warner; her brother James W. Terry and niece Debbie Kestner; and brother-in-law E.C. Woodward Jr. Opal was preceded in death by her in-laws, Frank and June West of Potomac, Maryland; brother-in-law Lonnie West of Silver Spring, Maryland; and brother-in-law Billy West of Mount Airy, North Carolina.
She is survived by her husband Robert F. West of Meadowview, Virginia, and her four daughters: Tammy and Danny Smith, grandchildren Ryan, Evan, and Erica Smith of Frederick, Maryland; Barb and TR Rascon, granddaughters Rebecca and Jessica Rascon of Fayetteville, North Carolina; Donna and Ryan Flynn, grandsons Charlie, Sean, and Liam of Newport, Vermont; and Terri and Louis Cabanilla of Arlington, Massachusetts. She is also survived by one brother Jay Terry and his wife Retha of Abingdon, Virginia, and Opal's five sisters: Dorothy Aistrop and husband Bernard of Saltville, Virginia; Betty Fields and husband Calvin of Bedford, Virginia; Ruby Thompson and husband Stuart of North Wilkesboro, North Carolina; Ada Woodward of Meadowview, Virginia; and Mae Belle Poston and husband Roger of Meadowview, Virginia. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Eula Terry of Saltville, Virginia; sister-in-law Bonnie and Randall Gibson of Silver Spring, Maryland; sister-in-law Phyllis West of Mount Airy, North Carolina; sister-in-law Lynn and Michael Nicholson of Louisville, Kentucky; brother-in-law John and Cindy West of Damascus, Maryland; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Farris Funeral Service from 6:00 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 7, 2011. Funeral services will be conducted in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 8, 2011 with Evangelist Mike McCoy officiating. Interment will follow in Fall Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
