Patricia Virginia Preston Blackwell

Patricia Virginia Preston Blackwell, 88, of Roanoke, VA (formerly of Abingdon, VA), passed away on Tuesday, July 19th, 2022. Mrs. Blackwell was born to the late Lewis Summers Preston and Virginia Phillippi Preston on July 4th, 1934 in Akron, OH. As a child, Mrs. Blackwell also lived in New York City, NY, as well as East Tennessee, before her family settled in Abingdon, VA.
She is a graduate of William King High School (Abingdon, VA), and attended Emory & Henry College. She married Mack Jefferson Blackwell, Jr. in 1954 and lived in Saltville, VA, where Mack was an engineer for Olin Chemicals. Together they were very active in church activities with Madame Russell Methodist Church, and in their community.
The family moved to Abingdon, VA in 1969, where Mrs. Blackwell served in many capacities at Abingdon United Methodist Church. She was also involved with the Washington County Historical Society, Friends of the Library, the Arts Depot, the Washington County Library, and the William King Museum.
Leaving many friends and memories, she moved from Abingdon to Roanoke, VA to be with her daughter and family in 2019. Shortly after moving to Roanoke, she was diagnosed with cancer, and after two-and-a-half years of a courageous battle, she passed away on July 19, 2022.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Mack, and her son, Lewis Jefferson Blackwell. She leaves behind her daughter, Patricia Lynn Williamson (David); granddaughters Ashley Summers McKelvey (Christopher), Jessica Ellen Domelle (Dave), and Patricia Courtney Blackwell; grandson Josh Blackwell; great-grandchildren Madison Domelle, Chandler Domelle, and Josalyn Blackwell.
Memorial services for family only will be held on Saturday, August 6th, 2022, in Forest Hills Memory Gardens, where her parents and husband are interred. A reception for family and friends will follow from 12:00-1:00 PM in the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, 19415 Lee Highway, Abingdon, VA.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Abingdon United Methodist Church, 101 E. Main Street, Abingdon, VA 24210. The family expresses much gratitude to Dr. David Buck, Dr. Mark Kochenderfer, Dr. David Iglesias, and their nurses and staff for their care and compassion during this difficult time.
