Paul Ammack Fisher

November 4, 1937 — January 12, 2017

Bristol, Va. - Paul Ammack Fisher of Bristol, Va. passed away Thursday, January 12, 2017 in the Bristol Regional Hospital Hospice Care after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

He was born on November 4, 1937 in Ithica, N.Y. to the late Frank Daniel and Elvena Fisher. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers David and Donald Fisher, and sister Janice Fisher Scanlon.

Paul is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Kathy Cooper Fisher; by his first wife Virginia Fisher of Upstate N.Y.; son Danny Fisher, his wife Lisa and daughter Brittany of Saylorsburg, Pa.; daughters Teri Pensack and Karen Fisher of Montana; two granddaughters; two great-grandchildren; and a special sister-in-law Loraine Fisher of Horseheads, N.Y.

Paul was a member of North Bristol Baptist Church where he was dearly loved and respected. He will be remembered by many as a devoted friend and husband, an avid tennis and pickleball player, and an excellent “leftie” golfer, having played all over the world.

His work ethic exceeded all others. He enjoyed a career spanning 40 years in the foods service industry beginning at age 17, working in a grocery store and later evolving to Regional Sales Manager for Swift & Co., traveling the northeast. After many dedicated and successful years, that road led him from Maine to Atlanta, Ga., where he met his wife Kathy.

After retirement they moved to Bristol to be close to family. There he found his dream job working at Glenrochie Golf Course in Abingdon, Va., for over four years before his illness began to advance. His Bristol family will be forever grateful to Ben Able and all of the staff for loving and caring for Paul during that time.

The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff at the Broadmore Memory Care, the doctors, nurses and all staff at Bristol Regional Hospital 5th floor and 2nd floor west (2 west), as well as Wellmont Hospice House nurse Whitney who came to care for him daily with the most gentle care. Special thanks are also extended to Vivian Parish, his home health care nurse, and to his special friends and devoted caregivers Art Jackson and Bill Dalton.

Honoring Paul’s wishes, he will be cremated with a private committal service taking place at a later date. A celebration of life memorial gathering to share memories and laughs and to honor Paul’s life will be held in early spring.
