Paul Barker Harris, Sr., 94 of Wytheville, VA and formerly of Abingdon, VA, peacefully departed this life on Saturday, July 14, 2012. Paul proudly served his country during World War II aboard the U.S.S. Cebu in the Pacific Campaign.
He was a loving and devoted husband, father, brother, paw-paw, great-paw-paw and uncle. Paul will be greatly missed. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jason Carson and Henrietta Harris; brothers, Robert Harris, J.C. Harris, Jr., and George Harris; sister, Virginia Sorensen, and grandson, Adam Fulton.
Paul is survived by his wife of 69 years Annie Mae Harris; one brother, Edwin Harris of Bristol, VA; one sister-in-law, Kathryn Harris of Abingdon, VA. He also leaves behind one son, Paul B. Harris, Jr. and wife Laurie of Coe Hill Ontario Canada; three daughters, Sarah Fulton and husband Dewey of Emory, VA, Sharon Stevens of Wytheville, VA, and Melanie Mowery and husband Mike of Draper, VA. He also leaves behind 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Pastor Mike Mowery officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memory Gardens with grandsons serving as pallbearers.
Visitation with the family will be held from 1-3 P.M. Wednesday prior to the service. Those wishing to express sympathy online may do so by visiting www.farrisfuneralservice.com and signing the online guest register.
