Pauline "Polly" Bordwine, age 84, died Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at her home after an extended illness. She was a graduate of Chilhowie High School and Johnston Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and was employed by Dr. Calvin Miller and Eye Physicians of Southwest Virginia for 25 years.

She was active in PTA and PTA Council, as well as Pleasant View United Methodist Church before her illness.

To Polly, each day was a special event. She tried to treat everyone with the attention and respect she wanted for herself. Polly loved nursing and the many patients she came to know well. She also loved gardening and flowers and enjoyed feeding many song birds.

She was preceded in death by her husband: William L. "Bill" Bordwine; her parents: Sydney C. and Nancy Herron Barr; 4 brothers: Paul Barr, Lloyd Barr, Fred Barr and C. C. "Chris" Barr; 3 sisters: Lavonia Barr, Bernice Widener and Gladys Crews.

Survivors include 2 sons: Mike Bordwine and wife Cindy of Lexington, SC, Barry Bordwine, ofBristol, VA ; 1 daughter: Sally Bailiff and husband Brian "Curly", of Bristol, VA; 1 sister: Agnes Miller, of Meadowview, VA; 2 sisters-in-law: Shirley Bordwine, of Abingdon, VA and Bea Barr of Shady Valley, TN

Additional survivors are 5 special grand children: Amy Bateman, Josh Bordwine and wife Vanessa, Shields Catone and husband Tony, Emily Greenwood and husband Lawton, Ashley Reece and husband Cory. 5 beautiful great granddaughters: Maddie and Anabel Catone, Ella Grace Bordwine, Abigail and Hannah Greenwood. She is also survived by numerous loyal friends, nieces, nephews and a special nurse friend: Faye Fore Puckett of Keysville, VA

The family will receive friends on Friday, June 10, 2011 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Pleasant View United Methodist Church.

Funeral services for Polly Bordwine will be held at 7 PM Friday at Pleasant View United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Ralph Kidd and the Rev. Barbara Farmer officiating.

A private burial service with be held at Forest Hills Memory Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Pleasant View United Methodist Church Wesley House or the church building fund, 18416 Lee Hwy., Abingdon, VA 24210. The family would appreciate you reading and believing John 14:1-6.
