Preston "Sonny" Profitt, 71, passed away Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at his home.

He was born March 15, 1939 and was a son of the late Clarence and Mary Snead Profitt. He was U.S. Air Force Veteran who served during the Korean War and was a coal miner and owner/operator of Top Equipment; a mining equipment repair business. He was a member and deacon of Holston Valley Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Profitt; an infant son and granddaughter, Ashley White.

Survivors are daughters, Donna Profitt Abrams of Clarksville, TN and Shawn Chapman and husband, Tom of Abingdon; son, Stephen Profitt and wife, Reba of Abingdon; sisters, Jean McClure and husband, Bill of Long Meadow, MA and Patricia Murphy and husband, Chuck of Ft. Myers, FL; grandchildren, Chad Abrams, Shauna Chafin, LeAnne Grammo, Steven White, Mary Beth Profitt, Bryce Chapman, Dalton Chapman, Aiden Chapman and Alli Cooper; great grandchildren, Shyanne Chaffin, Annabell Abrams, Tyler Grammo and Cameron Chaffin.

Funeral services for Sonny Profitt will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, August 15, 2010 at Holston Valley Baptist Church, 18396 Cleveland Road, Abingdon, VA with Pastor Paul Ketron officiating. Entombment will follow at Chapel of Memories Mausoleum at Forest Hills Memory Gardens. Military honors will be conducted by Highlands Veterans Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be Members of Holston Valley Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends at Farris Funeral Service, 427 E. Main St., Abingdon, VA from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Saturday.

Memorial contributions may be made to Holston Valley Baptist Church.
