Ralph Lee Puckett, age 61, passed away on Monday, April 18,2011, while working on his farm. He was a member of Green Spring Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder. Additionally, Ralph was on the Board of Directors of Farm Credit of the Virginias and Washington County Farm Bureau; Treasurer of Abingdon Feeder Cattle Association, Smyth/Washington Cattlemen's Association and Bristol Junior Steer Show; Past President and Board Member of Southwest Agriculture Association; and Member of Old Glade Antique Tractor Association. Ralph was a retired employee of Southern States.
He was an avid farmer and loved to fish with his grandsons. He enjoyed spending time with his family and numerous friends and also working on his antique tractors.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Sandi; 1 son: Andy Puckett and his wife Jennifer of Abingdon; 2 daughters: Lea Combs and her husband Earl of Glade Spring, Rachael Brown and her husband Allen of Glade Spring; and what he described as his best crop in all his years of farming, his six grandsons:Tyler and Kolby Jackson, Zachary and Alex Brown, Whitten and Camden Puckett.
He is also survived by 1 sister: Jean McReynolds and her husband Ed of Bristol, TN, 2 brothers: Charles Puckett of Abingdon, Harold Puckett and his wife Judy of Abingdon. Ralph also leaves behind, his farming companion: Lad, his border collie.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Earl and Leta Puckett and an infant brother: Arthur Puckett.
The family will receive friends Saturday, April 23, 2011 from 5 to 9 PM at Green Spring Presbyterian Church.
A graveside funeral will be held Sunday, April 24, 2011 at 3:00 PM on his farm at 13404 Prices Bridge Rd., Glade Spring, VA with the Rev. Jon Martin officiating. Friends and family will be honorary pallbearers.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held Saturday, April 30, 2011 at 11 AM at Green Spring Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Jon Martin officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Green Spring Presbyterian Church, 22007 Green Spring Church Rd., Abingdon, VA 24211
