Reba McCray

Saltville, VA - Reba C. McCray, age 88, went to rest with her Lord and Saviour on Thursday, November 3, 2016 at her home in Hayter’s Gap, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on September 16, 1928 to the late Will and Martha McNew.


She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Monda McCray, great-granddaughter, Miranda McCray, great-great-granddaughter, Erica McCready, and several siblings.



Think of love, compassion, honesty, generosity, and dedication, then you have known the life of Mrs. McCray. Reba’s first love was Jesus Christ and her church. She was a founder of Valley View Assembly of God and was a faithful lifetime member serving always. She loved her family and friends and was a care-giver, always putting everyone before herself. She was always known for her homemade rolls and bread, and her chicken and dumplings. She loved working in her garden and flowers, making quilts for her family and crocheting. Mamaw Reba’s life was her testimony. She experienced God’s wonderful healing power, His faithfulness and never-ending love until the end. She is loved and will be missed by all.



She is survived by her son, Gary E. McCray and wife Loretta of Meadowview, Va.; two daughters, Linda Dufour and husband Arthur of Ocean Springs, Miss., and Patricia Dobbins and husband Ronnie of Ocean Springs, Miss.; six (6) grandchildren David Johnson, Shelby Crabtree, Bryan McCray, Wendy Bennett, Scarlet McDonald, Ryan Dobbins; eleven great-grandchildren, Cody Johnson, Victoria Owens, Julie Stiltner, Mattaea Bennett, Lauren Bennett, Gracee Bennett, Zoee Bennett, Andrew McDonald, Maddax McDonald, Juleigh Dobbins, Rylan Dobbins, Camryan Dobbins; five great-great-grandchildren, Landen Johnson, Haylee Owens, Emilee Stiltner, Cameron Stiltner, Rylee Stiltner; and two sisters, Oakie Litton and June McCray.



The family will receive friends at Valley View Assembly of God Church, 27435 Poore Valley Road, Saltville, VA, on Sunday, November 6, 2016 from 12:30 until 1:30 pm. Funeral services will be conducted immediately following visitation, with Rev. Dennis Banks and Rev. Barry Marshall officiating. The committal service will follow in the Forest Hills Memory Gardens Chapel of Memories Mausoleum, Abingdon with Cody Johnson, David Johnson, Ryan Dobbins, Bryan McCray, David Bennett, Matthew Crabtree, Benjamin Owens and Johnathan Stiltner serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers include Billy George VanDyke, Gene Surber, Jack Eastridge and Clyde Eastridge.
