Rev. Charles Wayne Walker, 75, passed away on Friday, May 13, 2011 at his home.
Rev. Walker was born to the late Roosevelt G. and Lida Edison Walker. He was a veteran of the U S Army and the U S Air Force. Rev. Walker was a graduate of Holmes Bible College and became a licensed minister in 1970 with the Assemblies of God. In 1972 Rev. Walker was ordained and pastored church in Tennessee, Abingdon First Assembly of God of Abingdon, and Valley View Assembly of God of Saltville, VA. Rev. Walker is preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Janice M. Walker.
Rev. Walker is survived by a brother, Roosevelt G. Walker, Jr.; a sister in law, Kathy Poston and her husband Perry of Bristol, TN; and a brother in law, Dion St. John and his wife Sandra of Bristol, VA.; a cousin, Wilma Bryan and her husband Darrel of Mobile, AL.; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, May 16, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Farris Funeral Service, Main Street Chapel with Rev. Roger Williams, Rev. William Spann, and Rev. Dennis Banks officiating. Burial will follow the service at Mt. View Cemetery, Bristol, VA with military honors rendered by the Highlands Veterans Honor Guard and the Virginia National Guard Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 1:00 2:00 PM at the funeral home prior to the service.
