Richard Lee Orr, Sr., age 64, passed away on Monday, June 17, 2013 at his home. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army retiring as a 1st Sergeant after 30 years of service.
He was born to the late Morris Eugene Orr and Frances Arlene Dunn Orr on July 30, 1948. He was also preceded in death by three siblings: Larry Orr, Lillian Orr, and Mary Sue Orr Gilley; brother-in-law Richard Bates; and two nephews, Gannon and Bradley Orr.
He is survived by his loving wife of nine years, Valene H. Orr; three sons, Richard Lee Orr, Jr. of Martinsville, VA; MSgt Zackary E. Orr, United States Air Force, currently stationed in Korea, and David Daniel Orr and wife Kristi of Saltville, VA; two daughters, Brandy N. Orr of Atlanta, GA, and Chris Cutshall and husband James of Meadowview, VA; two brothers, Jack David Orr and wife Ann of Wytheville, VA, and Morris Eugene Orr, Jr. of Glade Spring, VA; two sisters, Bonnie Bates of Marion, VA, and Libby Owens and Ray; and four grandchildren, Alyssa Orr, Haley Orr, Madison Ann Doyle, and James Matthew Cutshall and wife Samantha.
Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday, June 20, 2013 at the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, 19415 Lee Highway, Abingdon, VA. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday at the Forest Hills Chapel with Chaplain Catherine Rollins and Butch Bates officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memory Gardens, where Larry Yogi Arnold, Butch Bates, Matthew Cutshall, James Cutshall, Craig Hudson, Travis Owens, Trevor Owens, and Joseph Crane will serve as pallbearers. Military Honors will be presented by Highlands Veterans Honor Guard and the VA National Guard. David Bates, Peyton Owens, Ray Tolliver and fellow veterans of the United States Armed Forces will serve as honorary pallbearers.
