Richard Randolph Scruggs
June 18,1959-July 14,2016

We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord. 2 Corinthians 5:8

Richard Randolph Scruggs entered into eternal life, surrounded by his family, on July 14, 2016, in Bristol, Tenn. A native of Charlottesville, he was born on June 18, 1959. His parents are Janice and Terry Evans of Bristol, Tenn. and Randy and Judy Scruggs of Charlottesville, Va. Rick was a graduate of Charlottesville High School and of Mary Baldwin College, where he received a bachelors degree in Business Administration. He worked in the accounting field for the duration of his professional career.

Rick loved his family, martial arts, the great outdoors, and sports, especially Duke basketball. He enjoyed coaching his childrens sports teams and supporting their academic and extracurricular activities. He was a lifelong fan of Charles Schulzs Peanuts comic strip and especially loved Snoopy. He also loved the beach, particularly the Outer Banks, and visited every chance he had. Rick was a gentle soul who looked for the best in everyone, and usually found it. He was much loved and will be greatly missed.

In addition to his parents, Rick is survived by his children, Kristina and Patrick Scruggs, both of Staunton, Va. Also surviving are a sister, Kathy Scruggs of Allison Park, Pa. and her husband and son, Peter and Wyatt Smith; aunts, Betty Lou Scruggs, Patricia Breeding, and Nedra Mills; uncles, Gary Dillon and Bill Dillon; along with many cousins and friends, including a dear family friend, Lesia McCoy.

Burial services will be private. Those wishing to offer memorials may wish to consider St. Annes Catholic Church in Bristol, Va., University Baptist Church, in Charlottesville, Va., The Sierra Club, or the ASPCA. The family would especially like to thank the clergy and community of St. Annes for their care and concern, as well as the staffs of ICU-3 at Bristol Regional Medical Center and Select Specialty Hospital in Bristol, Tenn. for their excellent medical care and compassion during Ricks illness.
