Robert Vance, age 93, of 846 Panacella Drive, Abingdon, VA 24210, passed away on Sunday, December 9, 2012 at Grace Healthcare. He was raised in St. Paul, VA. He served in the Merchant Marines and as a Chief Engineer in the United States Coast Guard. He was of the protestant faith.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Tilman Garfield Vance and Elizabeth Yelton Vance; wife, Blanche C. Vance; son, John Fred Vance; brother, George Vance; and two sisters, Ruby Vance Long and Ethel Vance Branson.
He is survived by three daughters, Elizabeth Kaine of Liberty, SC, Barbara Coffman of Tulsa, OK, and Jade Vance of Johnson City, TN; eight grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, December 13, 2012 at Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood, VA with Reverend Jerry Eggers officiating. Military honors will be presented by Lebanon VFW Post # 9864.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Virginia Creeper Trail Club, P.O. Box 2382, Abingdon, VA 24212, in Mr. Vance's honor.
